    PSX FRIENDS!!!
    THEY NEED YOUR HELP!!!

    Time to think
Hi all PSX fans over there, for the moment I decided to STOP the development of Pal4U2000... that means that the new 1.24 won't be released (don't ask about it).
This is not the END word...
I'm trying to figure out how to add some new vital features, like PSX 2 patching and a fully working NTSC screen centering. The site will be always updated, and the gamelist too...
And more than ever, I NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!! Read the howto section and learn how to contribute.

    FINALLY ONLINE AGAIN
Hi folks, sorry for the VERY LONG delay!!! I had SEVERE problems with my server, due silly admins decisions and login restrictions...
Tonite I was able to log in again in some ugly way... so first of all, I'll update the gamelist pages.
I've received ALL of your patches, so don't worry!

The new v1.24 is almost ready to ship, but I'm working to add something funny :)

  • 03/12/2000
    New version! P4UPatch v0.3b released
While working on the new Pal4U2000, I fixed up the P4U applier util, there was a wrong "Patch failed" message when the patch was OK. Available on the download section, as usual.

I realized that I never contributed to the game database... funny eh? So I took the "bad" gamelist (you can find it in the STATS page, in the GAMELIST section) and I patched the few games I own.

Give a look at the UNSUCCESSFUL PATCH LIST.

  • 02/12/2000
    Games are P4U2k protected?
Well, it seems. Some of the new games are protected against byte modification, as they include a file integrity verification. I'll tell you more.
  • 11/11/2000
    Work in progress!
Next version of Pal4U2000 should be ready for the next week. LuHa has kindly sent me the function for the ECC/EDC regeneration, so next version WILL include this feature :)
A big thank you to Kevin that has sent me two beautyful games... I'll be working on them, to get them fixed with Pal4U2000 v1.24 :)
  • 07/11/2000
    Pal4u2000 is compatible with CloneCD
I already received many successful reports, so it seems that Pal4U2k is compatible with this nice 1:1 copying tool. Thanks to everyone who has tested this solution.
  • 18/10/2000
Good news for people having problems with EDC/ECC
LuHA released a tool to regenerate EDC/ECC. If you have a TEAC CD-R55S you need this tool for patching games successfully. Otherwise, this cd recorder will correct the changed bytes, resulting in a 1:1 copy of the original!!! Download his tool from http://eccregen.cjb.net

    SOME CHANGES HERE AND THERE
I've updated the whole site... especially HISTORY and ABOUT section that were quite outdated :)
The new v1.23 is going very well... look at these stats (last update 11 Oct 2000):
    PAL4U2000 STATS
    VerGamesGoodHalfBad
    v1.23143127 (88.8%)9 (6.3%)7 (4.9%)

Check the whole stats here... together with the gamelist.
I'm still wondering if it's the case to add support for EDC/ECC code regeneration, for those CD recorders that don't support them (a very little number... the Teac CD-R55S). A smart guy, LuHa, sent me some source code for implementing them... if someone wants support for Teac CD-R55S, mail me!!!

    THE NEW GAME DATABASE!
I've finally finished the new games list database. It rocks!!! It's maintained by a tool called popP4u (by Vezz obviously!) that elaborates your patch submissions directly!
Try it by choosing "game list" on the left menu. Mail me if you spot problems (most likely!)

RELEASE TIME!!! PAL4U2000 v1.23 FINAL IS OUT
    BETTER SCREEN CENTERING
    BLANK SCREEN PROBLEM FIXED

There was a real crap bug in the Y positioning patch of v1.22, that causes many games to crash or to be unplayable on many tv sets.
Zer0-X is such a great guy and mailed me about that mistake... you should thank him for this release!! One more step towards 100%!
Hi to my friend Bizkid, who sent me a CD that v1.22 can't patch...
well, v1.23 DOES IT! Enjoy! :)

Pal4U v1.23 is downloadable from the download section (yes, you guessed it!)

    PAL4U2000 WORKS UNDER LINUX
I quote here a quick note from Alejandro Pose:
"To run p4u200.exe and p4upatch.exe I used wine (Wine release 20000109) and to read and burn the cd I used Cdrdao 1.1.3 I'm going to write a little tutorial, howto of copying cd's of psx using pal4u with wine and cdrdao under a Linux environment.
  • 27/08/2000
    P4UPATCH v0.2 RELEASED
I released the new version of P4uPatch with a nice feature... the un-patch command.
You can remove .p4u patches from BIN files, so you can try another patch without having to reread the cd.
Available from download from the appropriate section.

    Pal4U 2000 v1.23preB News
I'm testing a new patching mode, to solve the blank screen problem with some games like Tekken III. This patching mode will be called T3... guess why :)
As usual, every hint, help, comment is welcome.
  • 07/08/2000
It's Pal4U2000 time again!!! I was busy in other projects and I left alone Pal4U for some weeks... now it's time to improve this tool a bit more!
I updated the SUBMIT PATCH section, because I'm writing a tool that keeps updated the game list. Don't worry, I receive all your patch feedback, and all submissions are currently stored in my hard disk, waiting a mass-processing. I read every message, so continue submitting patch reports!

The MAC version of P4UPatch, the .P4U patch applier, is READY!!! Thanks to Dave Andrews for this tool.
Visit his site (http://www.macfirst.com/pal4u) to download the tool.

Pal4U 2000 v1.22b is behaving very well, but there is a problem common to many of the unsuccessfully patched games... the screen turns off, while the game still run.
In fact the screen heigth is wrongly set to 1 pixel (quite tight!)... I'm working to understand and solve this problem. I've already prepared a v1.23preB and I'm doing some personal tests.

    Pal4U 2000 Logo
PAL4U 2000: 90% OF GAMES PATCHED so far
I can't still believe it... I receive dozens of Pal4U 2000 v1.22b patch reports every day, and I must admit that this tool behaves better than I thought... that's very good :)
Some games like STRIKER PRO 2000 can't be patched (no seq. found) because the whole game is packed, and the code is not readable. Patching these games is far beyond the purpouse of my tool... that's why we have PSX cracker groups!
Games that Pal4U v1.16b cannot patch, are done 100% by the new Pal4U 2000... in fact, countless hours of coding and thinking give some results :)
I have updated the HOWTO section... give it a look!
    READ THE PAL4U 2000 HOWTO
  • 27/05/2000
I've modified the patch report form, so that Pal4U2000 patches can be reported. I'm also updating the script that generates the patch table.

    PAL4U 2000 v1.22b small fix
There is a small bug in P4U2000 v1.21, that fools P4UPATCH: the result is one or more dialogs saying "EXPECTED data is different from FILE data!"
The patch is ok! It was only a last-minute update that generated a last-minute bug... fixed in v1.22B.
(thanks to everyone who mailed me about this problem...)

    DOWNLOAD PAL4U 2000 v1.21b
    and P4UPATCH v0.1

Ok my friends, download time. I fixed up both Pal4U and P4UPatch, so I decided to make them available... beware, they're still under heavy testing... please report any problem you'll find, but DON'T BLAME ME IF THEY F*C*S UP YOUR PSX GAMES!!!!
    Download here: P4U2K121.ZIP (Pal4U 2000 v1.21 + P4UPatch v0.1)

A MAC version of P4UPatch is under development by Dave. I hope it will be soon available on my site.

    GOOD NEWS: PAL4U 2000 v1.20b AVAILABLE!
Finally! A lot of job was done, both on PAL4U 2000 and P4UPATCH to ensure the maximum compatibility and speed. I've worked more than 40 hours on these babies... now I'm quite sure they're ok.
For the tests, I've made a PSX-like MODE 2 CD with 27 PSX EXEs, taken from PSX games, with SEQs A,B,C,D and Y-POS code. 81 sequences were found and patched OK, and the smart CDR-Win SkipRawSectorRead(TM) is working 100%.
Duplicated SEQs are rejected, and P4UPATCH looks nice.
I sent P4UPATCH and the new PAL4U 2000 v1.20 to my "elite" betatesters... before making them public, I'd like to see how they work in real life. I'll keep you informed.
    DON'T MAIL ME ASKING P4UPATCH!
Your mail will be trashed, and you'll never get an answer.
  • 09/05/2000
I have to redesign from scratch the writing routines for P4UPATCH, because they are not compatible with Windows 2000... they are written in ASM, like some parts of Pal4U, but Win2K hates them.
That will take 2 days, more or less.
  • 08/05/2000
Funny... Pal4U 2000 doesn't work on Windows 2000 (and NT)... and of course P4UPATCH too. I use some tricky code in certain routines... and Windoze 2000 don't like it.
I've already done a workaround, and it's under testing. If it works 100%, a new 1.01B will be available.

    BAD LUCK BUT...
    PAL4U 2K RELEASED NOW!

Phew, I experienced a HD crash... I thought that those IBM discs were much more reliable!!! I had to reinstall the whole system, and restoring here and there... I like to backup, so it wasn't a great data loss :)
Pal4U 2000 1.0 BETA is available for download. It's the scanner... play with it, enjoy the graphics and test it. You need the P4U patcher for it to work, but I haven't time to recompile it up to now.
Sorry for these probs... enjoy Pal4U 2K! Jump to download section.

OFFICIAL PAL4U 2000 RELEASE DATE (supposed!!!):
    25 April 2000

Here we are!!! It's release time... phew, weeks are gone like hours for me in this period, but at the end Pal4U 2000 v1.0 is out!
And his companion P4UPATCH is finished too... I'm doing some final testings and the new graphics, but things are going quite well.
Thanks to all you out there for the support mails, for the help and for the encouragement!
  • 12/03/2000
Pal4U 2000 is ready and finished. It patches 4 sequences, with screen centering adjust both for PAL and NTSC. Now I'm working on P4UPATCH, the software that applies .P4U patches generated by Pal4U 2000 to .ISO, .BIN and PSX EXE files.
Again, be patient... when it's all finished and tested (a bit), Pal4U 2000 and P4UPatch will be available for download.
  • 27/02/2000
A new sequence (SEQ-D) was added to Pal4U 2k... this is why the release date was posticipated!!!
At the moment I have less time, because I started my military service last week... but I'm still supporting Pal4U, and adding all the patches you send to me to the database. (I'm just a bit slower!)
  • 18/02/2000
The P4U patch format is ready! The patch section of Pal4U 2k is almost finished, I'm doing some basic testing... this time things are quite complex :)
I'd like a P4U applier for every platform... so I need a Mac coder! If you're a GOOD Mac coder (and I mean really GOOD), drop me a mail.
We're opening an IRC channel on IRCNET, #psxita (still work in progress).. thanks to SlickRick for his help.
  • 11/02/2000
The scan section of Pal4U 2000 is finished and fully operational. It supports CDRWIN images, finding the correct codes. A new sequence was added (thanks to Zer0-X / oMs for his decisive help!). Pal4U is now faster too!
Now I'm working on the patching part, on the new P4U patch format, small, reliable and customizable...
If some guys out there have some EDC/ECC source, mail me now!! (my documentation is outdated...)
  • 06/02/2000
I'm back and ready to rumble! A lot of patches were added this time... over 250 patches now!
I heard some voices talking about a new Psyq library that handles video mode change in a different way... this results in a lot of "no sequence found" for Pal4U. Can someone confirm this?
I answered some mail with a bad email address... remember to reply ALWAYS to vezz@pal4u.cjb.net or vezz@vezz.cjb.net (it's the same).
  • 29/01/2000
Today I've received an enormous amount of mail... patches, support, assembly code and precious suggestions... thanks to everybody for it. With your help, I hope we'll have soon a "perfect" patcher... well, almost :)
  • 29/01/2000
I'm going on a short snowy holiday... so please be patient if I don't answer your mail... I don't have a laptop :) I'll be back in a few days, submit your reports, and I'll answer everyone as usual when I'll be back.
  • 28/01/2000
GOOD NEWS!!! Finally I got some screen centering code working. It will be included in the so waited Pal4U v1.2000... many many thanks for this to Zer0-X for his valuable help (he's the first guy who contributed in the development of Pal4U!)
  • 16/01/2000
    IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ
I've met some people in IRC tonight, and a nice guy called Lukullus has told me that Pal4U helps international game piracy, because there is no intro which states clearly that the game is modified by a PSX cracker group. It is said in the "Info" of Pal4U that I don't like "silly intro screens"... I have nothing against coders, they're making a great job that I can't emulate, because I'm not a coder nor a cracker... I'm just a programmer, and in this case, a programmer-for-fun.
If you're looking for good cracks, don't use Pal4U... it's just a lame byte-patching that sometimes works, sometimes (often) not.
Another thing... I coded Pal4U for me, especially for my brother's TV that is not RGB. (WHO NEEDS COLOR FIXES WITH A SCART RGB CABLE?!?) It is distributed as a GIFT. I don't get any money from this... no banners, no sponsors, no pay for click... nothing at all. Talking about fame... it's not very big, because PPFs are easily editable... I saw lots of modified Pal4U PPFs available for download in PSX crack sites, but I don't care.
So please, consider it what really is... a simple tool, that tries to make something good.
I don't want to compete with anyone... I hope this is clear. Thanks to Lukullus, firstly because we talked about important arguments, secondly because he's a good intro coder. (no kidding here!)
There is a good 60% of games that Pal4U can't patch... there is work for a lot of good coders!
Mail me about these problems, if you think I'm right or wrong, even if you think I should change my behaviour.
  • 23/01/2000
Phew, finally an almost decent site... it's still not complete, but it's usable!
  • 21/01/2000
    WARNING!! v1.15B IS BUGGY!
    v1.16B BUGFIX AVAILABLE!
Pal4U v1.15b has a bug in NTSC-C sequence. DON'T USE IT, because it generates a lot of false extra-sequences, and sometimes makes the game crash. I'm very sorry for this... I made a big mistake in NTSC-C algorithm. If you're using v1.15b, PLEASE DOWNLOAD v1.16 NOW!!!
Thanks to Luzie who helped me in finding this nasty bug.
I'm very sorry if you've wasted time and resources for this bug... it's my fault! I hope it will not happen again. But remember that these are public betas... and betas are always riskful :)
  • 20/01/2000
In case you've not noticed... I put only the first patcher name in the game database, due to space reasons. But there are people that have contributed with a lot of patches, even if their names aren't mentioned very much... I would like to say a big THANK YOU to: Deno287 (12 tries and helpful infos), Antiblock (8 tries), Juszuf (14 tries), Marc (8 tries), Pace (20 tries), Skippy (8 tries), just to name some of them... nicknames are directly taken from my email archive. Thanks for the good work!
  • 18/01/2000
Over 40% of submitted games was patched successfully. I think that this is a good result for a generic patching tool. Thanks to all people who have contributed with reports, executables, suggestions and so on.
When I update the page, the game database is updated too, so you can download it if you want. Remember to unzip it in the same directory of Pal4U.exe. At this time, it is very important to state Pal4U version and NTSC/PAL code when you submit a patch report ... if you can't remember the code, mail me and attach the PPF you've generated, because it helps debugging a lot...

Pal4U v1.15b is out. Don't be fooled, 100% patches are still a dream... but there are some nice features, like the game patch database and the NTSC-C sequence correctly patched and PAR-coded. As usual, it's a beta so don't expect the perfection...
You can download the new beta version from the links at the bottom of my page.
  • 13/01/2000
We have 150 games in the database! I updated the database on the page, there are some more infos... I'm working on PAR codes for NTSC-C, when ready I'll release Pal4U v1.15b.
  • 05/01/2000
Phew, finally the site returned to my main server... Pal4U v1.15 is still under beta testing (yes, I had some holiday I admit!) and I'm redoing the whole site too. Please be patient...
  • 31/12/1999
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2000 to everyone!
  • 28/12/1999
Now the good news... Pal4U v1.2000 is almost ready!!! Here there are the new features:
  • A new sequence is found and patched... I patched Final Fantasy Tactics, for example :)
  • All your patch efforts are included in a database, accessible directly from Pal4U;
  • There is an alternative patch mode, if the standard patch fails (look at the database!)
  • New patch format: .P4U This make the patch easily distributable... and you can "sign" your patch, so that everyone knows that you've found it for first :)
  • 28/12/1999
My main server has gone down for system maintainance... the Feedback Form is inactive up to 4 january! You can still mail me freely at feedback@pal4u.cjb.net
  • 23/12/1999
I'm looking for PC-based PSX development tools (debuggers, assemblers, etc) Mail me if you can help. Thanks!
  • 22/12/1999
Merry Christmas to all PSX patchers and players :)
  • 21/12/1999
I added the field "CD recorder model" to the form, because some of you have problems in burning back the modified ISO images. This happens if you CD recorder don't support regeneration of EDC/ECC codes (checksum). Pal4U don't recalculate this, so it's a work for your recorder. Many time this is the reason why a patch don't worked, even if it's in the "Successful patches". If some of you has a list of CD recorders that do/don't support EDC/ECC codes please mail me, so that I can put that list on this page.
  • 19/12/1999
I moved FIFA 2000 NTSC to "ok patches". After five successful patches I decided it works :)
I'm not sure about adding PPF2.0 support, because PPF files would be bigger, and you lose the ability of patching single PSX executables. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. I was thinking about making a .P4U patch format to redistribute the patches... we'll see.
  • 15/12/1999
I keep receiving a great number of emails from Pal4U users. I must admit that most of them are successful patches advices or congratulations... and that's good. I can count on a great number of good beta testers, who risk CDs on CDs to see a correctly coloured game :) So where are the news? A very nice guy from a famous group mailed me... if I convince him to help me, the number of patchable games will dramaticaly increase. Hope this will happen, for all you around here!
  • 12/12/1999
Game list statistics added. Just to see if we are around 30% of successful patches.
  • 11/12/1999
The games list now is auto-generated with a small tool that sorts and creates the table, to ensure that there are no dupes. The category "Controversial Patches" was added, because someone couldn't patch a game that was successfully patched by another or viceversa.
  • 10/12/1999
New beta version uploaded. I don't upload all the beta versions, but only those which worth uploading (important bugfix). A lot of people mailed me, with precious comments and hints... thanks to all you out there for support.

I changed the web server. I'm fed up with Freeweb, now I use a fast and reliable universitary server. I hope that this will solve all access problems.
